Dr. Ian Says: Swap Apple Cider Vinegar for Green Tea
“This idea has been around in the 70’s and it’s become really popular now on social media [over the past few years]. The main ingredient is apple cider vinegar. And, then you have all these spices and herbs: turmeric, ginger, horseradish, garlic, basil, thyme, some people like lemon, lime and onion. So, you can make your own assortment,” explains Dr. Ian.
“You put all the herbs inside your apple cider vinegar. And that’s the trend. They say it has preventative properties, with the ability to keep illness at bay,” he adds.
BUT, be careful.
“The spices and herbs are fine, but the apple cider vinegar can cause problems if too much is consumed. Apple cider vinegar is very acidic, which can be bad for your teeth, your GI tract, and your throat if you have too much of it,” Dr. Ian warns.
So, if you’re going to have apple cider vinegar, consume no more than 2 tablespoons a day maximum, but Dr. Ian actually has a better alternative.
“The spices and herbs are fine and do contain immune-boosting properties. A good alternative would be to add herbs and spices to green tea, which also has immune boosting effects,” he says. That sounds WAY better to us!
